FAGAN'S HOMELAND SECURITY FEED
RSS -
XML
![]()
criminal justice, HLS news, political news, political feed, rss, xml,
politics, and rich site summary, homeland security news
The purpose
of this feed is to collect from credible sources the links
to academic articles and general news items regarding HLS
and then distribute them through one medium to interested
persons. The 5-multicolored logo above represents the
HLS Threat Advisory System, and each headline presented
through this feed will be preceded by this logo.
Headlines from the first 2 feeds in July 2005 appear at the
very bottom of this page in order to demonstrate the type of
content typically distributed through the feed.
Rich site summary, or RSS, technology allows webmasters to send new content
directly to the RSS reader of internet users. RSS keeps users from having
to return to so many websites to get information they want; instead, the
information can come to them from many sources to just one place. Right
click on this link,
HLS
RSS/XML,
and select "Copy Shortcut." Then paste that shortcut into your news reader
that supports RSS or XML feeds. If you are unable to do that, then the
direct RSS feed address is http://workingpapers.org/hls.rss
.
Two news readers and other sources for
explaining RSS technology follows. Clicking on this
Google link provides excellent sources for novices who wish to learn more
about RSS feeds.
The
feed sent from this website has been tested on the news feed
programs Awasu and Feed Reader. Awasu is a Japanese
word that means "join together." It is one of the few readers that
supports descriptions in the feed. This is important because the
annotations of the HLS articles and news links come through the reader as a
"description." You may download this 3.2mb rss reader from Working Paper
Sites by clicking here. Awasu is also located on
its parent website at http://www.awasu.com.
Feed Reader
is another description-supported reader, and it is by far the easiest to use.
However, it does not work well across all platforms and has far fewer options
that Awasu. Go to
www.feedreader.com and look for the "Alpha 2.5 Build 610" if you want a
simple alternative, or try to find the latest build for the program. I have been
using the 2.5 version since 2003.
